Wolves Edge Brantford
Waterloo Gold opened the AA schedule with a hard fought 4-3 win over the Brantford 99ers.

The Wolves had to step up early in this one to kill off a five minute Brantford power play.  Once they did, they controlled the play in the first period, getting numerous scoring opportunities, but were unable to get one past the Brantford goalie.  The Wolves opened the scoring in the second on the power play when Evan Kula's low shot found the back of the net.  Josh Stephens and Griffen Harris picked up the assists.  The 99ers replied less than two minutes later to even the score at one.  Brantford took the lead later in the period on a redirection that beat Wolves' goaltender Sawyer Poetker.  The Wolves came out hard in the third and evened the score with the man advantage.  Quinn Bisch started the play by keeping the puck inside the blue line on a clearing attempt and making a nice pass to his defensive partner, Thomas Lunz.  Lunz sent the puck toward the net and Kula was there to redirect it into the goal.  The final minutes of the game would prove to be very exciting, with three goals being scored  in a span of 29 seconds.  The Wolves went ahead with just over three minutes left in the contest when Brandon McBain took a pass from Justin Labrie and fired a wrist shot from the point that eluded the goaltender.  This came with the Wolves having a two man advantage.  Brantford replied 8 seconds later however to tie the game at three apiece.  The wolves did not get down after allowing the shorthanded equalizer and they responded 21 seconds later to take a 4-3 lead.  Thomas Dunbar sent Derek Jensen in over the blue line and Jensen's low shot proved to be the game winner.  A great team effort tonight by the Wolves!

The Wolves are back in action tomorrow when they face Kitchener Red.
