Wolves vs Huskies
The Atom Black team took to the ice right where they finished off the game yesterday.  By far the best team effort and a full 60 minutes against another top team in the division.  Every game is a big improvement as the boys buy into the teams' systems.

The first period was hands down the best start of the early season as the Wolves took it to the Huskies taking the majority of the possession on a lot of pressure deep in the opponents end.  Matthews came up big again as he made yet another first save on a breakaway early in the first.  The team seemed to build from that save and pushed the effort to the other side of centre.

The second period was also heavily dominated by the Wolves as they continued their strong play deep in the Huskies end.  The boys started to make bringing pucks deep into the opponents end a ritual, as they worked the visitors hard in their end forcing turnovers and chances at net.  If it wasn't for the hot Huskies tender the score would have been piling up.  The boys have been using the "checking the hands" technique to perfection and continue to create turnovers.  Keep up that work in practice!

The third period started off as the first two, as the Wolves pushed to open the scoring.  A scramble at the half-boards found Hawthorn push the puck through a few legs to Edwards who wacked it over to an all alone Wei who made no mistake glove side for the first goal of the game.  The pressure continued at the goalie who made a number of key glove saves to keep the Huskies in it.  Half hay through the third, Hamilton found a way to tie it up on a broken play that saw Matthews make a big save only to have the puck tucked into the net.  Two minutes later an odd play saw the visitors go up a goal for a 2-1 lead.

The Wolves did not quit yet again and pushed harder for one more goal.  Many chances found their way to the net, but just couldn't make it past Hamilton goalie.  For the third game in a row, Waterloo pulled the goalie to add the extra attacker and came close yet again.

This has by far been the best effort by the group.  The forwards did an excellent job of back-checking all game and not giving the other team any space to work in.  The defense also played their part with a solid effort by not letting many shots get through and also seeing their spots to rush the puck deep into the Huskies end.  Matthews had another strong showing in net.

The Players of the Game for today are Waters and Johnstone.

My apologies for not posting this yesterday.   Congrats to the Players of the Game yesterday, Young and Doyle.

See you at the next game against Hamilton White on the October 23rd.
