Heartbreaking Loss for Waterloo Gold in the Championship Game
It was a heartbreaking loss for Waterloo Gold in the championship game against Georgetown on Sunday afternoon.

These teams have only met once before in an exhibition game prior to the regular season, and it was clear from the start of the final that Waterloo Gold is now a much different team than 2 months ago. Waterloo outskated and outpassed Georgetown, shutting down their offensive plays again and again. Waterloo was hungry for the win. Hayes banged in a couple of power play goals to make it 2-0 at the end of the first period. Georgetown scored at the beginning of the second. Guerriero made an unbelievable save on a breakaway by the Georgetown captain, but Georgetown would score again before the period was over to tie up the game at 2-2.

Hayes scored again at the start of the third to give Waterloo the lead. As the game drew to a close, it seemed certain that Waterloo would win. But with only a minute to go, Georgetown would tie it up 3-3 sending the game into sudden death overtime. The teams battled hard for the winning goal, but it would be Georgetown coming out on top after a point shot found the top left corner 3:40 into overtime. All the boys should hold their heads high for playing an outstanding weekend of hockey.

Waterloo Gold will head to London on Saturday to face the London Jr. Knights Green.
