Saturday Jan. 7 2012 - Waterloo vs Kitchener at AMCE
A match of the cross-town rivals! On Saturday January 7th we hosted Kitchener in our first game of the 2012 season in an action packed game. Having defeated Kitchener in the recent past, Kitchener was putting on the pressure from the moment the puck was dropped and managed to initiate scoring in the first period. Shortly thereafter, Colin F responded with a Waterloo goal to tiethe game. It was a game full of penalties- unfortunately mainly on our side. At one point we managed to have 3 players in the box at the same time. There were multiple other times where there was a 5 on 3 situations against Waterloo. The players, coaches, and especially the Waterloo fans all accepted these sometimes questionable calls with a great deal of restraint, calmly accepting the decisions of the referees. J The defence line ups of Zach J, Braden M, Matt M, Ryan M, John M and Casey B(who played his first game in this position) should all be commended for their efforts. Bryce R also made a switch of positions tonight going from defence to forward. Good work Bryce. Sadly, with 13 seconds left and with yet another Waterloo member in the penalty box, Kitchener managed to capture a 2-1 victory. One moment of levity: in the midst of 5 on 3 pressure, Matthew M skated by the glass with a big smile on his face, just before a critical face-off. Clearly he was having fun, and isn’t that what this is all about?
Other notables of the night include the selection of the team captains. Colin F was named Captain with +Assistant captain designations going to Dawson F, John M and Ryan M. Congratulation’s gentlemen and I’m sure you will make your team members proud.
