Wolves Novice Black show Greatness in Brantford's Gretzky Tourney
5 games in 3 days against some of the best competition in Southern Ontario, show the Wolves have bite!

December 27th - Day 1

Game one vs Newmarket Redmen.

The game was an early start in Beautiful Brantford.  The Wolves came out fast and furious and did not get bothered by the excessive Turkey consumed over the break, but seemed to be a great deal of Sweet Potato pie with all the sweetness the boys had, when handling the puck.

Sweet mitts we refer them to, with some fancy dangling, offensive rushes and passing plays that truly was the key to a big win.  Slates had a multi goal game with several other scorers that was spread out nicely.  Coombsy shut the door with the 7-2 win.

Game two vs London Nationals

The much anticipated game against the high flying Nats, the boys were riding high on their big win and continued the momentum into this game.  This game was special with Hutty getting his first goal ever from a blistering point shot from the blue line.  Being down Blacker and Niesz, we had the honour of calling up Red Light Liu!  Red Light Liu made his presence felt by lighting the lamp twice in this game to keep the good guys up.  When Red Light Liu was asked about being called up from the minors he said; "Obviously, I just want to make an impact that can help the team and give as many goalies sun burns on the back of their necks from me scoring so much".  He proceeded to grab the microphone and ate it...

DVR also played a strong game in between the pipes with a 5-2 win.

December 28th - Day 2

Game one vs London Bandits

With another very early start, the young Wolves started out strong but quickly faded through out the game.  With spurts of greatness, was not enough to fend off our opponents with a late drive to make the game close.  Losing 4-2 was a stinger knowing that we were better the day before and the next game was going to be tough and important if the Wolves want to make the quarter finals.

Game two vs Amherstburg Stars

Coming into the game had the fans and players confused with Amherstburg team, they had the Stars name with the Colorado Avalanche logo...
The Stars were too much for the Wolves.  With the editor in chief on a scouting mission, away from the game, off line log reports showed in short, this game was like a pack of wolves hunting bisons and Simba from Lion King...?  Tough loss 6-2.

December 29th - Day 3

Quarter Finals vs Amherstburg Stars  "The Rematch".

Three days of early morning travel and starts in Brantford, showed true to the boy's fatigue.  With a great start to the game and going up by 1 early put the strong Stars on their heels, but was also like poking the bear. The young Wolves had nothing left in the second and third periods of play and were dominated by a fast skating, passing and physical Stars team.

They lost a tough one 7-1 to the Stars who eventually beat Kitchener Blue and put up a battle in the finals to loose to an undefeated St Thomas team.

Through this tournament, the young Wolves would notice that it's not how many goals an individual player scores, but getting back to the basics of intensity, speed, being aggressive and the willingness to WANT the puck...this will lead to goals and arguably, the most important stat - ASSISTS!  This was shown on Day 1 with games 1 and 2.

Several players had sweet goals, assists, great plays offensively and defensively, but will continue to work on skating and foot speed to get to those dirty areas and win battles.

A good hockey player plays where the puck is. A great hockey player plays where the puck is going to be. - Wayne Gretzky

Truly what's inspiring for these young men, is the togetherness and support they have for one another.  This is a TEAM!  Win or lose, we will continue to support and stick up for one another, everything else will fall into place...We Believe!

The Wolves get back to Waterloo and practice to be ready for the Cambridge Hawks Saturday Jan 5th and a game in Toronto, on Sunday Jan 6th against a tough Woolwich Wildcats team at Coca Cola Coliseum followed up with a Toronto Marlies game.
