Novice MD Red Win big on the road in Cambridge
The Wolves battled with some strong defensive play and a solid puck possession game.

The opening frame was a strong start for the young Wolves against a strong 8 year old Cambridge Hawks team.  Kropfy and Nater opened the scoring for the Wolves.  Both goals were the results of battling in front of the net and hard skating.  The defense of Monty, Fitzy, Tias, Kinger and Hutty were on their A games in front of Reider with the boys going short-handed on two occasions.

With the Wolves ahead by two, going into the second, the Hawks came out ready to battle.  While the Wolves took another trip to the penalty box, the Hawkes took advantage with the extra man and scored to make the game interesting.  The refs arms continued to go up and down like a busy slot machine in Vegas, sending a steady stream of Wolves players to the sin bin.  Reider and Rowe switched mid period and both made key saves to give the boys a chance.  Nater and Double J scored for the Wolves to keep the lead, but a charging Hawks also kept it close potting one more.

Coach Strachan ensured the boys stayed the course and played to our game plan.  Tias had the Gordie Howe Hat trick by making a trip to the sin bin and making up for it by scoring a key goal.  Jonesy followed up with a bar down goal, with a beauty pass from Lukey to put the icing on the cake.  The D men made good on the final push with key saves by Rowe to keep the Hawkes from getting any closer.

The Wolves will review some video tonight and take an early curfew for a battle at home against the first place Brantford 99ers-3 Sunday.
