Novice MD Red have their longest winning streak of the year, stopped at 5 straight
The Wolves may have been beat on the scoreboard, but had contributions from everyone on both sides of the puck.

Adversity reared its ugly head from the beginning of the puck drop for the Wolves. The 99ers took control of the game spending several minutes in the Wolves end with cycling of the puck high between the Brantford defensemen, keeping the puck in the Wolves end.  With a different twist from the previous game, the ref’s hands seemed to be tied to their sides, allowing the boys to play the great game of hockey.  The buzzer sounded off the first period with the Wolves clinging to a 1-0 deficit.

With Coach Strachs, Coach Monty and Coach Crown Royal providing a regroup of the boys with their chants of Skate, pass, shoot, the boys were fired up to come out strong!  The Wolves could not get anything past the solid 99ers goaltender.  Strong rushes and great back passes from Monty and Hutty up to ‘The Fiddler’ set him out on a partial break-away, but he could not keep up to his feet breaking into a jig, inside the 99ers zone and getting a shot on net.  Several efforts by the boys came up short and the Brantford’s version of number 99 put their team up 2-0.  This was a close period with some great efforts by all the boys, notably from Pax Attack back checking and pulling the puck from the goal line to keep the game close.

Going into the third period, the lines changed to get the boys going.  Double J, Jonesy and an outstanding end to end rush by Fitzy made it an interesting game and a battle to the end.  The Wolves could not contain the strong possession game that Brantford had with a familiar last name, who potted several goals that could not be contained.

Like Vince Lombardi said “we didn’t lose the game, we just ran out of time”….until next game, we will battle!

The Wolves will get back to school for the week and practice hard for next weekend.  These games against Cambridge Hawks White and the big bad Brantford 99ers 8 yr old team will dictate their year-end success going into the Stanley Cup playoffs.
