Novice MD Red had a 4-point weekend closing out with a tough Burlington Bulldogs team Sunday afternoon.
The young Wolves continue their winning ways, winning 6 of the last 7 games with speed and puck support.

The Bulldogs came out with some bite holding the speedy Wolves to a 0-0 first period.  The young Wolves certainly made great passing plays, skated hard and won the battles against the boards but could not beat the Bulldogs goaltender, who kept them in the game.

The second period did not disappoint.  The Wolves came out fast with some great passing plays.  Couz and Lukesy made a couple quick plays to get it to Jonesy down low, who sent the puck, roof daddy, short side, that knocked the goalie’s water bottle into next week.  Shortly after, Marty popped up a puck to Strachs again who did his version of Adam Oates passing to Kropfy who cleaned up the laundry.  Kropfy wouldn’t stop there taking another feed from Strachs and Nater, resulting in a a quick 3-0 lead.  Burlington potted one on a clear break away, making it a close 3-1 ending to the second period.

Going into the final frame the coaches had a hunch and went with it…they changed up the D and Forwards which later was referred to as the turning point.  Andy K was a tower of power, playing solid back on D and seemed like a natural back there.  Double J moving up to centre from D also seemed to be the difference maker to put the Wolves up quickly.  Marty and Pax Attack fed a couple helpers to Double J who took matters into his own hands popping in three.  When Double J was asked in the post- game media scrum, what inspired him on his late game heroics, he stated “It’s all about the cow bells and the Wolves fans that keep the boys going”.  Modest reply for a hot handed goal scorer.

All the Wolves continue to play strong as a team with support, speed, puck possession and backchecking, not to mention Reider and Rowe sharing a 1.00 GAA over two games!

The Wolves will have rest up this week, with a couple practices before taking on the power house Brantford 99ers in a battle for first place on the 23rd.
