Tournament Weekend: Whitby Edge Again Cup
Another road trip weekend for our team as we headed to Whitby for the Edge Again Cup.

Building on the momentum from the prior weekend, the team was looking for its 3rd win in a row as we started the tournament with a morning game against the Ottawa Silver Seven. The teams were well matched and skated hard across the 3 periods with the Wolves claiming the victory 2-1.

We “carbed” up with some stir fry for lunch, got checked in and then were back at the rink for our afternoon game against the Ajax Knights. This game was the inaugural game with our beautiful new black jerseys. With the new uniform the team looked like a professional club skating to its 8-1 win. The boys were firing on all cylinders for this game with equally strong offensive and defensive play.

After the game we headed back to the hotel for a pizza party and some rest. An early night for the boys as we had a 9:15 am date with the Oshawa Generals on Saturday morning. We got an early lead but Oshawa kept battling back and kept the game close. We ended up with an 8-5 win with some great saves by Tim Chafe.

That was the only game for us on Saturday and the boys had a fun filled afternoon of laser tag, indoor playgrounds and swimming. After dinner they had popcorn and watched a movie at the hotel. Many thanks to our Social Committee for organizing the team and family lunches, dinners and all the fun the boys had this weekend. You can tell the boys had a great time and enjoyed every minute of it – great job!!

On Sunday we crossed over to play teams form the other Minor Atom AA pool. Our morning game was against the Amherst Knights. This game was a battle with excellent net-minding by Mitch Simmons. We took the game 3-2 and progressed into the semi-finals.

The Semi-Final Game was against the Peterborough Petes. They were a fast skating, quick passing and relentless attacking team that had our number that day beating us 4-0.

It was great to see the team’s strong showing last weekend and at this tournament by making it to the semi-finals.  It was a fun 6 game winning streak and we had some awesome team performances on the weekend and will take this into league play this week against Burlington and Brantford this coming weekend.
