Close Game Against Chedoke Express
From Team Correspondent Curtis:

Good evening folks and welcome to Sports Desk. We have a game from Thursday January 2nd at the Heidelberg Haus to update you on, where the Wolves of Waterloo played against Hamilton Chedoke Express - whatever that is - on an evening of sloppy weather and forgetfulness. It's the Christmas break, so many of the players are enjoying some of the various outdoor rinks, and some forgot to put their skates back into their hockey bags. It should also be noted that Hamilton is a mix of minor and major peewee players. It worked out in the end, and here's how the game played out.

Emmett takes the start between the pipes and looks ready to go. Not long into the first period we have Bryce going deep into the opposing end, he passes to Josh in a scramble out front of the net, the shot, and GOAL! Waterloo takes an early lead, then extends it 21 seconds later when Michael (standing in for Curtis), Josh, and Peter put together a nice play where Michael slams it in to give Waterloo a nice cushion. With ten seconds to go, Hamilton goes on a 3 on 2 rush, but Bryce turns on the jets and shuts it with a strong back-check.

The second period starts with Waterloo hammering a Hamilton player into the boards, but there's no whistle. Another few seconds later Waterloo doles out a slash but this time it puts Hamilton onto a power play. Waterloo kills it without too much difficulty, and as they get back up to full strength we see Spencer going for the net, he gets tied up by a Hamilton defenseman, they sail toward the goalie still tied together, but Spencer still manages to get a shot in. It's saved, but he shows some good tenacity on the play. Midway through the period there's a scramble in front of Emmett, the Waterloo defence can't clear it, and the puck gets tapped-in to put Hamilton up on the board. As the period winds down Xavier passes to Jacob, Jacob takes a strong shot, but gets saved by a hot Hamilton goalie. The play immediately goes down to the Waterloo end and Emmett goes into the full splits to make a dandy of a save. He didn't know he could do that.

Now for the third. Still in the first minute, Peter wins a full-out drag race to the puck, takes a shot, but saved again. Still in the Hamilton end, Casey H and Xavier work together to pass the puck to Colin, Colin patiently waits for the right time, he shoots, and he scores! Waterloo takes a 3 -1 lead. With less than five minutes to go, each team has a player in the box and it's 4 on 4 on the ice. Nobody capitalizes on it, but Emmett saves a tough slapshot. Now with a minute to go, a determined Hamilton player undresses Waterloo from front to back, he takes a high wrist shot, it hits the crossbar and rockets down and into the net. Half a millimeter higher and it would have gone up and over the glass. It's now a 3 - 2 Waterloo game. With a minute to go Hamilton pulls their goalie. It's madness out there with everyone giving everything they've got. With only seconds to go, the Hamilton captain starts what looks like an unstoppable drive toward the net but is stopped by the buzzer. And that's how it ends - Waterloo wins it 3 - 2.
