WATERLOO MINOR MIDGET AAA ADVANCE TO ALLIANCE FINALS AND CLINCH BERTH IN OHL CUP
Last night the Waterloo Minor Midget AAA Wolves defeated Brantford 4-2 to sweep the series 3 games to none. With the victory the Wolves advance to the Alliance Final where they will face the winner of Kitchener vs Chatham.
As well with the victory the Wolves have clinched a berth in the prestigious OHL CUP on March 11-16th in Toronto.
In Game 1 of the series the Wolves jumped out to an early 2-0 first period lead on goals by Ryan Sparkes and Riley Bester. In the 2nd period the Wolves added to their lead on a goal by Andrew Heibein. Going into the third the Wolves led 3-1 and then put the game away on the PP with a goal by Brock Philips. Matthew Chan was solid in net stopping 21 of 22 shots for the win
In Game 2 Brantford came out very strong and took play to Waterloo and jumping out to a 1-0 lead. Midway thru the second the Wolves struck with goals from Bester and Sparkes. Brantford scored late in the second on a 5 on 3 PP to even the score. Game stayed tied after regualtion and went to Overtime. In overtime the Wolves put the game away with a goal by Chase Campbell on a nice set up from Brendan Schneider. Steven Nelson was solid in net making 22 saves for the win
In the deciding game Waterloo came out flying in the first jumping out to a 3-0 lead. Goals came from Campbell with 2 and Sparkes with the other. No scoring in the 2nd and then in the 3rd Wolves took some penalties and allowed the 99ers to close the gap to 3-2. With 4:12 left in the game Schneider scored Waterloo's 4th goal and secured the 4-2 win and trip to Alliance final and OHL Cup berth. Chan made 19 saves in the win
