GAME RECAP

We have been through a few close game this year and Saturday's game was no exception.  Team blue was coming off a big win and we wanted to keep building on that momentum .  Cole Breen started us off in the first period with the lone goal of the game blazing in from the blue line finishing in the top right corner of the net.

This was the only goal that made it to the scoreboard for the JDI squad, however, I will give Zach Bruce credit for a puck the was shot so hard, it found the back of the mesh and came back out.  So fast that both officials missed it!!  Great goal Zach!! Next time we'll make it official!!  Our battle continue throughout the game.  We always ask our players to get shots on net.  Shots obviously creates more opportunities to score.  JDI came through with 28 shots. Great offensive pressure.  In the end, the opposition somehow wove the puck through a forest of players and tied the game at 1 each.  With our efforts and a few missed goals, I will put this one in my books as a win.  Keep the play-off pressure on JDI!!!

PRACTICE RECAP:

This weeks practice was a combination of passing receiving skills with a break-out drill.  We started with the mechanics of a wrist shot.  Seems kinda basic, however, sometimes, the mechanics of each phase of a move can be forgotten.  We found about 30% of the players we finishing on the wrong leg.  I will follow this email with a step by step breakdown video of the wrist shot.  Even though it is a Team USA video, I am sure he was taught by a Canadian!!!!!

The break-out drill utilized a give and go pass.  The center-man cycled the puck behind the net to a winger waiting at the hash marks against the boards; facing the pass.  The center received a pass from the winger and gave a one-touch-pass back to the winger.  Together; the two forwards circled in the neutral zone to form a 2 on 1 on the waiting defense-man.  This was a great game play drill that can be used during every game.  I would encourage our players to watch a NHL game on TV.  Focus on where the players pass to each other.  Is the pass in the skates of the intended receiver.  If it is in the skates of the receiver....what happened to the receiver as his head was down looking for the puck in his skates?????  Are the passes behind or in front of the intended receiver.  It is great for our players to focus 5 minutes on a single element of hockey and see how the pro's perform that skill.

Solid practice and a great effort by all of the players!!
