GAME RECAP
At the beginning of Saturday's game, the coach's asked 3 things from the players. 1) Play our position; including back checking. Players in the correct position make good things happen. They are in the right space to defend the opposition, and they are in the right space to receive passes to form an offensive charge.
2) We asked our defense to watch the opposition's forwards breaking through the center. We need to eliminate as many break-way's as possible to relieve some pressure on our goaltender. Less opportunities for shots on net, result in fewer chances to score. 3) We asked our defense to clear the opposition out from the front of our net. Again; to give Aidan space to defend our net, and to give less opportunities for re-bound goals.
At the end of the game, I can say that the team followed through on every objective they were given. Great JOB!! Thank you goes out to Harmon and Coulter for dropping back to defense for this game. 2 of our regular defense we away leaving us with 2. Harmon and Coulter agreed to the shift and did a great job along side of our regular defenders.
The game.....Both squads came out strong on the ice. The first 2 period ended scoreless. Both teams traded shots on net, however the net minders were on their game and stonewalled the competition. Just over a minute into the 3rd period, Cole Breen drove the net to pick up a goal from re-bound. He was in his correct position and was awarded a goal for it!! That goal was unassisted. Less than a minute later, Michael Shaw found the back of the net bringing the JDI lead to 2 goals. Ben McKay assisted this play. With the JDI players fiercely defending the lead, Quinton Kaminski, scored; sealing the game with 4:38 minutes left to play. Congratulations goes out to Aidian our #1 net minder with his 2nd SHUTOUT of the season. Fantastic job AIDAN!!!
PRACTICE RECAP:
My gift to the JDI players this year was a fun practice session. Although I did warm them up with some skating drills, the majority of the practice was spent having fun with the Schlueter Hyundai team with some 3 on 3 hockey. I believe the scrimmage ended in a tie.
