GAME# 1 & 2 RECAP

I have combined the game summaries this week because the same words can be said about each game.  We faced 2 very strong teams this weekend.  We had players away, and players sick.  Even with a short...very short bench the JDI players worked extremely hard for the entire 32 minutes of hockey during both games.  It was great to see that every player fought and battled for the puck.  They put in 100% effort for the entire game.

The referee in the second game commented how well our players move the puck to each other.  I AGREE!!! The lone goal of the weekend was scored during the Schlueter Chevrolet game.  Cole Breen drilled one over the right pad of the Schlueter net-minder.  Assists on that goal go to Harmon and Michael.  Super effort JDI!!!

PRACTICE RECAP:

We combined our practice with Allstate due to our short turn-out.  We worked on our cardio for the first 10 minutes with some skating drills. My JDI players know from past practices that the harder they work in the skating portion of practice, the shorter the time we spend on it.  They never disappoint, so I limited the skating to 10 minutes.  After the skating, we ran a 2 on 1 drill using the full ice.  It was a great drill for our defense to gain proper position on an odd man rush as well for the forwards to use both players on the rush.  We rotated the forwards and defense through each others position to give an alternate view on how the play needs to be executed.  It is a good exercise for the defense to think like a forward and come up with solutions to beat the defense at game speed.  The same can be said for the forwards playing defense.  After running this drill, we moved onto a 5 on 5 full ice scrimmage.  We explained to the players that we would be blowing whistle to stop the play to explain positioning.  The focus was on being in the proper position at all times.  The night finished with a shoot out.  I think this ended in a tie.  In my opinion, the tie always goes to the rule maker (ME)....so JDI wins!!

Solid practice and a great effort by all of the players!!
