GAME RECAP:
Who needs the NHL on TV when you can watch JDI beat the BUZZER at the Waterloo Rec Center??? It took until Monday afternoon for my pulse to reach an acceptable level!! What a finish. The entire JDI squad never gave up and left everything they had on the ice. In the final minutes of the first period, Michael Shaw put the JDI team on the score board from a beautiful feed by Phillip Spence. Early in the second period, Ben McKay drove home the second goal of the game with an assist going to Quinton Kaminski.
The third period begins....We held the Lowe's team to a one goal lead until half way through the third period when they scored to take a 2 goal lead. The JDI squad dug deep within to forge ahead. Quinton used every scoring trick he had. Quinton used the head of Ben McKay to bank a shot into the net past the Lowe's goalie. The Lowe's lead now stands at 1. The opposition mounted a resurgence on the JDI Club, bringing their lead back to 2. Less than 1 minute later, Quinton battled end to end scoring a beautiful shot over the glove hand of the Lowe's net minder. The true grit of the JDI Players was now being put to the test. With 2 minutes remaining in the game, we had to drive full force ahead. With our net empty, Caleb Reitzel joined the offence for one final push with a minute remaining in the game. Chaos breaks out in front of the Lowe's net. All 11 players had to have been in some way shape or form in the crease. THE BUZZER SOUNDS!!! The referee almost standing on the back of the net waving his arm frantically.........IT's IN. SSSCCCOOORRREEE!!! JDI beats the buzzer and cheats the opposition of their victory celebration. The game ends 5-5. What a great way to take a regular season game and make it feel like a game # 7 of the Stanley Cup final. Amazing job by all of the JDI TEAM!!
PRACTICE RECAP:
This week we had a joint practice with the Allstate Team. It's good to combine the teams to have a full ice practice. The drills were organized by the Allstate Team. (This is my rookie coaching year, so I yielded the lead to the veteran coaches ;) ) We did a ton of skating drills and puck handling drills. I would have to say that the players in the light blue jersey's looked pretty good against their ice-mates. I may be slightly bias. I am allowed to be!!
