Week # 4 JDI News Line
I would like to welcome Cole Breen to the JDI Team.  Cole came over to our team as a replacement to Matthew Kipfer.  Matt was registered in both Kitchener and Waterloo to play hockey.  Alliance hockey only allows players to be registered for one club.  Cole is going to be an excellent addition to our roster.  Welcome Cole and his family.

GAME RECAP:

GAME # 1

The first game of the weekend showcased the JDI team!!  Congratulations go out to Aidan with his SHUTOUT!!!

Fantastic job between the pipes!! Elliott opened the game with a great rebound in front of the net with assists going to Coulter and Quinton.  Cole Breen opened the second period with assists going to Coulter and Elliott.  Continuing our momentum, Michael Shaw added to our lead with a pass form Harmon.  Sealing our Victory; Quinton made a move on the opposing goalie with a helper from Cole.  A solid game was put forth by the entire squad!!  Very happy with the result.  We took charge of the game offensively while still providing the support for Aidan to stop everything the other team could throw his way.  Great VICTORY JDI!!!

Game # 2

The Challenge of the weekend.  Pillers came out firing on all cylinders catching us on our heels 19 seconds into the game.  We fought a hard battle throughout the entire first period.  The lone goal of the second period was a sniper shot off the cross bar from Quinton with an assist going to Cole.  The battle continued through the third period.  Quinton finished off a nice break away with a move leaving the Pillers goal dizzy scoring our 2nd goal of the game from a Phillip Spence pass.  In the end, the hard fought battle was lost to Pillers 5-2.  Great effort JDI.

PRACTICE RECAP:

This weeks technical portion of the practice reviewed the cross over start and the v-start.  Our players used a cross over start with a full out skate to the blue line.  The players dropped to the ice and rolled over.  This ensured a complete stop to set up for the v-start heading back to the goal line.  We also reviewed our transitional skating from forward skating to backward skating.
We practiced a new warm-up drill that we will utilize before game to replace the traditional swing drill.  3 players start with a puck in each corner.  The first player takes off around the top of the circle for a shot on net.  When the first player reaches the top of the circle, the 2nd player takes off following the path of the first skater.  The third player follows the pattern.  This drill repeats from the other corner.  This warm-up gives our goaltender more shots with a faster pace than the swing drill can provide.
The tactical portion of the practice started with my favorite "Chaos Drill".  Players skate in a zone with a puck keeping their heads up finding open spaces.  The drill progresses to a pass with a partner.  The pace of this drill will get faster and faster each week as the players become more comfortable.  The goal is to have each player searching for the target player while the target player becomes aware of the opposing players on the ice.  All of this will happen in practice at game pace.
We also practiced high speed passes.  Players made a lap around our practice zone to build speed.  When they approached the start, they called for a pass; received a pass and circled in for a shot on Aidan..  The purpose of the drill was to increase accuracy of the player making the pass as well as the skater accepting a pass at game speed.

The Grand Finale of the practice was a break away shoot-out.  The end result had to be declared a tie among all of the player due to an interruption from the Zamboni   Next time guys!!  Great effort by all of the players.  Keep up the focus and great work ethic during practice!!
