Week # 2 JDI News Line

GAME RECAP:

Saturday's game saw JDI clinch their first VICTORY!!!  Super job was performed by each and every member of the team.  We did a fantastic job of passing the puck.  The receivers of those great passes found open space on the ice creating great forward movement into the offensive end.The first goal of the night was Quinton Kaminski unassisted.

GAME RECAP: con't

The visitors came back at us scoring the next 2 goals.  Ben McKay opened the second period with an unassisted goal to bring the JDI squad back into the game.  The dominating continued with Michael Shaw's goal midway through the second period with assists going to Quinton and Harmon.  One minute later Quinton went in for a rush netting JDI the 4th goal of the night unassisted.  The lone goal of the 3rd period came from the delicate hands of Caleb Reitzel from a Quinton Kaminski pass.  The final score was a very impressive 5-3. Keep up the enthusiasm guys.  We will build on this momentum!!!

PRACTICE RECAP:

Friday night saw our technical portion focused on our transition skating from forward to backward.  The progression went from a forward skate to the blue line and backwards to the goal line.  We added a transition at the halfway point to he blue-line   The next phase saw the players skate in a square changing from forward to backward on each side of the square.  I know this was a ton of skating. Great job!!

The tactical portion was a re-play of last weeks drill.  We had the players all skating with a puck in a zone with our heads up and always looking for open space.  The drill progress to incorporate a pass.  The players paired up and skated with their heads up in the zone passing to their partner.  The objective was to find open space to receive a pass.  This drill was evident in our game play.  Great to see the guys use skills from practice in their game.  It works!! Again super job!!
We also practiced our 3 on 2 play.  This allowed the players to get open, relax and move the puck around.  The more vision they have of the players on the ice, the more comfortable they will be in game situations. As our players get older...taller...the are also getting faster.  A pass will always be quicker than a player skating.  The more possession and movement of the puck we have the greater our chance of success.

The fun portion saw the players race for a lone puck.  The first to the puck became the offense and the trailer took a defensive role.  I saw some great moves, and great competitive spirit from the guys.  It was a great way to end a Friday night!!
