GAME RECAP:
We have had a great start to the season. Our first time on the ice as a team resulted in a 1-1 tie. We showed great potential as a team. As a coach; I was glad to see some smart passes, and good vision of what was going on around us. Positional play will be something we focus on as the season progresses. Our goal was scored by Coulter Weiler with a great assist from Michael Shaw. Aidan our goalie kept fighting between the pipes to limit the opposition to a single goal. Keep up the great work guys!!!
PRACTICE RECAP:
Tonight our technical portion focused on our cross-over start. The progression went from a simple foot cross along the mid and blue line to a full stop with a cross-over start. We incorporated this movement into a passing drill. The players skated hard from the red line into the zone with a full stop on the hash marks. The cross-over start moved the player into open ice where they received a pass finishing with a shot on net. Great job!!
The tactical portion had the players all skating with a puck in a zone with our heads up and always looking for open space. The drill progress to incorporate a pass. The players paired up and skated with their heads up in the zone passing to their partner. The objective was to find open space to receive a pass. Again super job!! We also touched on player positioning. This topic will be covered in every practice.
The fun portion saw the players compete in a shoot-out. I saw some great moves, however Aidan was solid between the pipes resulting in a shut-out.
