With a rare mid-week game and only a Sunday game on the weekend,
the Waterloo Wolves had a change of routine yet collected three points out of a
possible four points. Not too shabby but the hungry Wolves were left with a
sour taste failing to collect all four points.
Wednesday night, in Hamilton, against the Huskies red, the Wolves
used a pair of power play goals to lift the team to a 4 to 1 win. Declan Uniac
opened the scoring from Cole Hunsberger and Evan Wallace and Ball had the last
goal of the game from Hunsberger and Jake Patterson. Sandwiched between the powerplay
goals was Ball from Hunsberger and Jack Mayne from Uniac.
Once again Drew Cribbin got the call-in net for the Wolves
and once again he was sharp making key stops and leading his team. Cribbin had
help from his defensive crew with Jackson McNichol, Riley Webster, Patterson,
Evan Walsh, Ethan Wasylyshyn and Jack Smith showing they can control a game and
dictate the pace of play in their own end. Both Jack Thompson and Hunter
McMurdo played a couple strong games in the defensive zone, delivering hits and
driving plays up ice as well. Make no mistake, the Huskies Red are skilled up front,
and you need to defend by committee against them.
On Sunday, it was the Ben Morton show against the GLHA
Mustangs Purple. The Wolves tied 5 to 5 and Morton was a huge reason why.
Morton had a pair of goals in the second period with his first from Wallace and
Paterson and second unassisted. Morton also set up Patterson with a nice
backdoor feed. Uniac opened the scoring from Ball and Patterson. Mayne recorded
goals in back-to-back games from Cole Ledgister and Griffin Beddis.
Up next the Wolves enter the Stratford Silver Stick in a very
strong Pool and the team can look forward to some excellent competition and
good hockey. The players will need to up their compete and pay even greater
attention to detail to be successful. The coaches feel the team is up for the
challenge.
Go Wolves!
