Wolves Move to the Top of Standing!
It was a busy, yet productive weekend, for the Waterloo Wolves.

The team put up victories over the Hamilton Huskies White and Sarnia Sting but dropped a contest to the Brantford 99ers. The wins helped the Wolves tie the Stratford Warriors for the top spot in league standings.

In a complete offensive battle, the Wolves scored 11 times against the Huskies winning 11 to 4 at home.  Riley Webster scored from Cole Ledgister and Griffin Beddis. Jake Patterson scored from Beddis and Ledgister. Matthew Ball scored from Cole Hunsberger and Hunsberger scored an unassisted goal right after. Declan Uniac scored from Ball and Hunsberger. Ben Morton scored from Jack Mayne and Evan Wallace. Uniac had his second goal of the game from Ball and Hunsberger. Beddis scored from Jack Thompson and Ledgister. Hunsberger scored his second of the game from Patterson and Uniac. Beddis joined the multi goal squad from Ledgister and Hunter McMurdo capped off the scoring from Jack Smith and Webster.

In the third period, the Wolves put Jack Silver in net. Silver has been working hard in practice for the team well Sam Miller rehabs his broken collar bone. Silver didn’t surrender a goal and looked good in his debut.

It was almost expected that the Wolves would have a goal hangover after such a wild offensive output. However, the Wolves started off strong against the 99ers, scoring twice to take the lead. That said, the Wolves fell into that low energy, almost cocky, lack of effort vibe that comes with a goal hang over.  Ultimately, losing 3 to 2 and being served some humble pie.

Morton scored the first goal of the game on the powerplay off a nice pass from behind the net from Beddis. Ledgister collected a helper on the goal as well. Hunsberger made a slick play on the blueline after a beautiful cross ice pass by Uniac and Hunsberger made no mistakes with a nifty little move in close on the goal. Ball also had an assist on that goal.

If Drew Cribbins was fatigued after all the action he saw on the weekend, if certainly did not show in the Sarnia game as he earned the shutout. Cribbins was dialed in and despite his team giving him goal support, scoring five goals, make no mistake without Cribbins play the team doesn’t get those goals.

It was another solid performance from the backend as well. Jackson McNichol made several huge hits all weekend and has done a great job making players worried in the Wolves end. Evan Walsh has been making plays to move the puck up ice and out of harm's way. The team was fortunate to have Ethan Wasylyshyn return from suspension. Wasylyshyn was needed as a forward in the game.

The scoring was opened by Wallace from Hunsberger and Ball. Ball scored from Wallace and Hunsberger. Morton scored from Hunsberger and Ball. Beddis scored from Mayne and Morton and Hunsberger scored from Wallace and Patterson.

Moving ahead the Wolves have an important weekday game against the Hamilton Huskies Red with first place up for grabs. The Wolves also face the Huskies in game one of the Silver Stick Tournament. The team will need to bring their best effort in games moving ahead as every team keeps improving and the difference from the top seed to the bottom seed is very little. If the player keep buying in and putting the work in there is no reason they can’t win the league!

Go Wolves!
