Belleville Tournament update
The Waterloo Ice Wolves are playing this weekend in the Belleville Shriners Tourney. Today’s games had us playing Center Wellington  and Oshawa.

The boys came out rolling right away with some great puck possession and tape to tape passes. This tournament format awards 1 point for every period you win and an additional 2 points for the win. The Wolves took full advantage of this format by playing every period and winning the game 4-0. They were rewarded for their effort with all 5 points.

After a quick 2 hour break the Wolves were back on the ice facing Oshawa.

The boys fell behind 1-0 and were having early trouble finding their legs. As the game progressed it looked like the Wolves would be suffering their first loss as they were behind in the 3rdperiod 2-1 with 2:05 left on the clock. An attempt to tie the game with a loaded line also proved unsuccessful.

A face off was called in Oshawa’s end with 1:18 left on the clock. Still a bit early to pull the goalie for the 6th skater but Waterloo rolled the dice and put out the extra man hoping to take advantage of the face off in Oshawa’s end. The Wolves battled for the draw, gained puck possession and sent it to the point. A one-time clapper from the point rang off the post and into the net tying the game up 2-2. Both teams pressed hard in the final minute of the game and drew even at the final buzzer. The points format also finished in a deadlock with 2.5 points being awarded to both teams.

Wolves go into tomorrow’s games with 7.5 of 10 possible points.

A pretty good start that we will build from as only the top 4 point total teams qualify for Sunday’s semi-final.
