Allstate Closes Regular Season with a Win!

The last time Team Allstate Insurance played BJC Architects was January 4/12 and they beat them 6-1. The one thing that is true about hockey players and coaches is, much like an elephant, they have incredible memories. So Coach Joe reminded the boys that BJC Architects would be looking for a little bit of payback for that lopsided defeat handed to them by us earlier in the season.

From the drop of the puck it became obvious that this was a much different BJC Architect Team than the last time we faced them. They moved the puck better, established a forecheck, clogged up the neutral zone and their goaltender came to play.

It was a 0-0 score after the first period with both teams getting a few chances. Allstate Goalie Jack L. made one great safe in particular off of his face mask that kept the score even. BJC Architects outshot the boys in black 5-3 in the first period.

More of the same followed in a closely contested second period with both teams unable to convert on some quality chances. The score after two periods was 0-0 and Team Allstate outshot the opposition 6-3 in the period.

The goose eggs were finally broken 2:15 into the third period when Nolan S. did a great job keeping the puck in at the blue line. He dumped the puck deep into the corner and Captain Joe V. spun and fired a low wrist shot that caught the BJC Architects goalie off guard and slipped through the five hole giving the boys in black a 1-0 lead. It was a short handed goal as Dustin K. was in the box at the time.

Team Allstate Insurance faced some adversity in the third period as Dustin K. took a second penalty and Elliott D. took a tripping penalty late in the third period but the boys in black managed to kill them all off. Late in the third period Joe V. was hauled down on a rush and Team Allstate had a Power Play to finish the game. What followed was a goaltending clinic as the BJC Architect goalie made 5 or 6 five bell saves to keep his team in the game.

Final score was a 1-0 win and the Team Allstate Insurance regular season record finishes at 6-5-3. The Playoffs begin next Saturday February 9/13 with a rematch against BJC at 7:30am at Albert McCormick West Arena in Waterloo. The playoff round determines how our team will be seeded for the season ending Tournament in late March.
