Boys in Black Start Playoff Round With A Big Win!

Team Allstate Insurance finished the regular season with a 6-5-3 record, good enough for 4th overall in the 8 Team League. The Boys in Black have now moved into the 7 game playoff round that will determine seeding for the Season Ending Tournament March 22-23/13. The first opponent for Team Allstate was BJC Architects who played a great game against us last week to close out the regular season.

The first challenge Team Allstate had to face in this game happened in the dressing room before the game when the coaching staff discovered that the team would be four men short for this first game. Jack L, Devin I, Joe V and Dustin K were all missing in action. That meant we started the game with only 5 forwards and 4 d-men.

The game started out as a very even match up, back and forth with teams exchanging scoring chances, but the Boys in Black really worked hard today despite being short handed on the bench. The score after the first period was 0-0. The second period started out very similar to the first, however Team Allstate actually swung the momentum in their favour with very effective forechecking and back checking by our forwards who were obviously tired but didn't seem to care.

Early in the second period the puck was kept in at the blue line and slid down the boards to Ty C. who moved into the high slot and then slid a pass over to Elliott D. who slammed it home to make it 1-0 Allstate Insurance. A lit bit later on Ty C. was digging for the puck off to the left side of the net and managed to pass it out front to Liam J. who wristed it into the net to make it 2-0.

In the third period it became obvious that the man power shortage was starting to have an effect on the team as momentum began to swing in the favour of BJC Architects. The puck was in our end a lot more during the third period until Wes S. intercepted a cross ice pass and went end to end before making a beautiful forehand/backhand deke to bump the score to 3-0 for Allstate.

With just 4:00 minutes left in the period a shot slipped through the legs of Goalie Nolan S. and stopped near the goal line. Logan N. tried to slide it out of danger but BJC managed to slide it the rest of the way over the goal line to make it 3-1 which eventually was the final score.

The League Playoffs now get put on hold as Team Allstate Insurance hits the 401 this coming weekend to play in and win the 2013 February Freeze Hockey Tournament in Scarborough Feb 15-17/13. A reminder that if you can't get your child to the first games on Friday there are several parents that have offered to drive.
