Minor Peewee Selects Still Batting 1.000
Seemed like the right time of year for a baseball metaphor!  Well, the goalies stole the show on this night ... at both ends of the ice.  The Wolves got the only goal of the game and hung on for their second win in as many tries.  Take it away, Curtis...

Here are the game stats:
2nd period: Ben goal, Curtis assist.

Transcript from the play-by-play, with apologies for the delay. A Waterloo power outage Monday evening made it difficult to transcribe from the original tapes.

Hello sports fans, and welcome to game two for the select teams of Minor Peewee. Tonight's game will feature the Wolves of Waterloo at home against the Burlington Bulldogs. The game tonight is held in Albert McCormick Arena on the Eastern pad. It should be noted that today is a special occasion - the hockey player Aleksandr Koreshkov of Kazakhstan was born on this date in 1968, and Waterloo celebrates by turning on the heaters in the spectator area in Albert East.

And now to the game. On the puck drop it's Waterloo on the offensive with an early scramble in front of the Burlington net. Their goalie is swimming on the ice, but manages to keep it out. The play is moving quickly back and forth, but here we go, Burlington makes a play, and a huge save by Chris, keeping the score tied at zero. Waterloo is having a tough time clearing the puck, and Burlington looks like they have some wind in their sails from the oncoming hurricane. Another save by Chris, taking one hard in the breadbasket. Nice job. The period ends and the game remains scoreless.

The second period starts up fast like the first. The Waterloo forward line takes it into the Burlington end, Curtis makes a strong move to the net, ohhh! He makes a falling wrap-around shot but the goalie gets a piece of it and the shot goes wide. Nathan gets a hold of it, unleashes a powerful wrist shot and into the glove. The play continues, and Chris makes a sliding save, then makes his way off the ice for Emmett to take his turn between the pipes.

Now we're down to the last minute of the period, the players look electrified, a scramble down in the Burlington end, Ben takes a shot, and glove save! The face-off, another push to the net, Curtis behind the net, passes out front to Ben who takes a shot, gets his own rebound, and SCORE! Waterloo is ahead by one with 3.8 seconds left to go in the period.

Into the third period now, and the players look a little slower, they probably burned a few too many matches in the first two periods. Johnny fires off a slapshot from the blue line, and goes a little wide. Waterloo is spending a lot of time now in the Burington end. Curtis gets a shot, Xavier takes a few whacks at it too but the score remains one to nothing Waterloo.

Seven minutes to go, Burlington makes a hard shot from the right wing, and.....GLOVE SAVE by Emmett! Another shot at Emmett but this time we hear the unmistakeable sound of the puck clanging off the post. Plenty of action here. The players are going end to end, Nathan and Brody each getting another shot at the Burlington goalie. Back in the Waterloo end Emmett makes a stick save, goes down, he's doing the back-stroke but keeps it out.

Burlington pulls their goalie with a minute and thirteen to go. Will it pay off for them? The Burlington coach thinks so, and tells everyone in the arena their game plan. A scramble in the Waterloo end, finally clearing it for another icing call. Waterloo is having a tough time clearing the puck this time, and the buzzer! The game ends with Waterloo taking it with a final score of one to nothing. And that's it for tonight's broadcast, have a safe trip home.
