MP Selects finally get first win of 2013
The Minor Peewee Select team made the trip to Burlington on Tuesday evening and came home with a hard earned two points.  We had two regulars out of the line-up on this night, and our APs filled in very nicely.  Curtis has all the details...

Good evening folks, and welcome to Sportsdesk. Tonight we have the Waterloo Wolves in a rematch against the Burlington Bulldogs. These teams last met back in October 2012, where Ben scored the only goal of the game in a tight match that could have gone either way. This time the Bulldogs have the home ice advantage, with the Wolves making the drive down for a Great Lakes rematch. The Zamboni needs a rollbar, so it might be a tough rink to play on. And tonight there are some changes to the Waterloo lineup: Chris is down in Tijuana for a secret goalie training camp, and we're not sure about Nathan, but when last seen he was heading north with a shovel, a pail, and a sharpened stick. Matt is filling in for Chris, and James is playing defence. This means Ian gets a chance to play forward - forward from the centre line, not from the blue line. Let's see how it plays out.

On the puck drop Waterloo is immediately on the offensive. The forward line goes deep, Jeremy positions himself in front of the net as Curtis goes behind for the puck. Curtis passes up to Jeremy but it hits the back of the Burlington goalie and GOAL! Waterloo is already on the board at less than a minute into the game. Later in the period Josh has a chance at a quick tap-in but is denied by some nice goaltending in the Burlington end. As the period winds down, Burlington gets past the Waterloo defence and goes on a dangerous rush but is shut down by a strong backcheck by Tristan. The period ends with Waterloo still holding at one to nothing.

The second period goes without any goals but still has some nice action. The Waterloo defence is shining tonight - Braden and James, and Casey and Johnathon are working hard and doing a nice job at keeping Burlington scoreless in the period. One play in the Waterloo end sees Burlington slide the puck along Emmett's goal line, but somehow it stays out. Halfway through the period Brody grabs the puck near the Waterloo crease, goes long, and gets tripped in the Burlington end, and Burlington gets a penalty. Near the end of the period, now with Matthew in net, there's a scramble, and Matthew keeps it out for his first of many tests of the night.

In the third it looks like Waterloo is slowing down, doing more gliding than skating but they still manage to keep on top of the game. The Spencer, Brody, and Ian line goes on a strong rush but are shut down by a nice save. Three minutes into it, Ian passes up to Brody, Brody goes deep with a bunch of Burlington players on his heels. He has time to set up a shot, and GOAL! Nothing but net on the long side, making this a 2 - 0 game for Waterloo. This just makes Burlington mad and they push deep with one play after another, which Matt keeps out with one nice save after the other.

Burlington pulls their goalie with less than two minutes to go. Johnathon gets a well-timed but obvious roughing penalty, but no harm done except now Burlington is working with a 6 on 4 rush. A scramble in front of Matt, he keeps one out, Waterloo has trouble clearing it, and GOAL! Burlington gets on the board, making it a 2 - 1 game with only a minute left. Waterloo pushes back, and keeps it mostly down in the Burlington end, and then Waterloo wins it 2 to 1. Nice game, and thanks to Matt and James for filling in.
