Sometimes when you are playing hot
and firing on all cylinders, you do not look forward to a break in the schedule,
out of fear the momentum could change. This was not an issue for the Waterloo Wolves
as they came back to play with a dominate 7 to 0 win over the Sarnia Sting.
The win put the Wolves four points
out of first place with three games in hand and the hope to overtake top seed
in Alliance. Already the Wolves have the best winning percentage and fewest
goals against as they have marched through 9 straight wins in league play.
Ciaran Guttion-Quayle earned the
shutout and was sharp as always. The Wolves have allowed only 5 shorthanded
goals against in league play and a lot of that success comes from the strong
goaltending the team gets from both netminders.
The hot play from the Wolves
captain, Ben Morton, continued. Morton had a hattrick in the game and finished
on 4 of the primary assists Keegan Weatherdon earned. Morton’s first goal was
set by Weatherdon and Jacob Shaughnessy. His second goal was also from Weatherdon
with Owen Miloje earning an assist and his third goal was from Weatherdon only.
Weatherdon had his 4th assist on a goal from Reed Rozema with Morton
also getting an assist. Allan Wang had a pair of goals with his first set up by
Casey Ross and Ethan Kralik and his second from Morton. Kralik also scored from
Connor Wilson and Jack Mayne.
As it was mentioned, the team has
the fewest goals against, and yes, the goalies play a huge role, but so do the
teams defenders. As has been the case all season, unsung heroes, Jack Smith and
Logan Murtha, see the bulk of the penalty kill and have been lights out. Jack
Gardner is extremely difficult to play against and compliments the slick moving
Christopher Ding. And with the return of Evan Walsh the Wolves D-core has every
element the coaching staff desires.
Up next is a huge game against the
Stratford Warriors. The Wolves will look to avenge a 5 to 5 tie last time they
were in Stratford and reach the double digit level on the win streak.
Keep playing hard Wolves!
