With
a 6 to 3 win over Hamilton Huskies Sunday, the Waterloo Wolves come home one
win away from winning the Alliance Championships.
After
the first game of the season, it was written here, “It is clear the
Wolves have the makeup of a solid team and the drive to build towards their
goal to win the Alliance Champions and march into Kitchener to take the OHFs
this season. If the players stay humble and work hard there will be nothing
that can stop them.”
Humbled over a grueling season that taught them hard work is how you win, and now, the hardest work of all, right in front of them, to
end the series and capture their goal.
The Wolves are playing better each game and are getting
contributions from all over the ice. One area the Wolves are particularly strong
is in net. Mitch Simmons made saves today that you couldn’t believe unless you
saw them. Simmons stood tall and delivered an amazing game for his team.
Once again Matthew Anderson started the scoring off with a
goal from Declan Uniac and Yianni Peppas. Then Uniac and Peppas combined again
to set up Cole Ledgister. Anderson scored his second goal from Peppas. Jacob
Reid-Brant then scored a pair of goals back-to-back with his first being set up
from Caleb Cumming and his second from Jackson McNichol and Jake Patterson.
Ryan Beckner had the final goal from Griffin Beddis and Reid-Brant.
It was a hard-hitting game and the Wolves had Tyler O’Hearn
ejected and Carson Bernhardt injured. Matthew Ball was double shifted and
Cullen Derry once again had to be the team utility knife playing all over. Tate
Merritt and Connor Palmer played big minutes and did a great job getting the
puck out of their end with ease.
The series is anything but over and the players remain focused
and ready to battle with the prize in sight. Tine after time the players have
shown character and dedication and the coaches are excited to see them play
this one out.
Keep going boys!
