Wolves outworked in Cambridge
The Atom Select Wolves travelled to Dickson Arena on saturday night to take on the Cambridge Hawks, the wolves coming in fresh off their tourney win in London. The wolves on paper are a team that had the depth that can dance with any team in the area. The question before the puck drop was - were they ready for the Hawks in their old barn...........

The game started fast and both teams seemed to be trying to figure each other out, there was fast skating and somewhat good pressure by the wolves. It looked like we found a dance partner that was going to be able to trade our dance steps. We ended the first period with no scoring on the board, it was also clear the men in stripes put away the whistles, right or wrong they were going to let this dance continue.
Off to the second - the message on the bench - keep skating hard, more shots on net and get in their house to create some chaos. Well this dance turned into a break dance showdown and the wolves could not match the moves of the hawks, the hawks pressured our wolves, on every shift, creating opportunities that the wolves could not keep up with. The hawks were able to score 2 in the middle period, were the wolves going to be able to respond to the hawks attack.
Start of the 3rd - message was simple - get the next goal - if we do it's a new game. Start playing the way we know how and lets play with some energy. After 5 min of the 3rd the hawks had a shot on net that Jack did not even see - 3-0 hawks, gut check time. The boys were getting down on themselves, the coaches were sending words of encouragement and to keep attacking. Unfortunately the Hawks put the final dagger into the Wolves with 4:54 left in the game.
The game ended with a last minute attack by the wolves to at least break the shutout - but to no avail.
The wolves were out hustled, out worked and had minimal compete from an entire team perspective. Every team has an off night - but we must at least have the boys trying to compete. Let's move on - this game is behind us, no sense dwelling on it.

We'll get it back, that I know for a fact. Let's go Wolves...

See you at the Rink
