Game 1 Goes to Waterloo
The Wolves squeaked out a W in game one of the series against the Brantford 99ers...

The previous post guessed correctly, the 99ers came prepared to do battle!  It took until the second period for the Wolves to finally find the back of the net in the form of a well-placed shot by Lucas T.  The Wolves thought they had control of things until halfway through the third period when some slow back-checking by the Wolves allowed the 99ers enough real estate in the high slot to put one in.  Regulation time would end, and the game would move on to a 5 minute over-time period. Parents stood nervously as the minutes ticked by and good chances would be had by both teams.  With 14 seconds remaining, a faceoff in the offensive zone would allow for a Waterloo time-out to get the play set up.  The Wolves would lose the draw and the puck would be cleared.  Cruz B would steer the puck to Wyatt N who would skate with it into the O-zone but would get stuck near the boards deep in their end.  A battle would ensue with the puck popping out free to the high slot, where Dexter V made the right decision to pinch and put a nice low shot on net into extreme traffic.  With 2.3 seconds left, the puck would find its way through the traffic and into the far corner of the net, giving the Wolves the win.

This turned out to be a battle of the goalies.  A special congrats to Sam M and Josh C who turned in excellent performances, tossing aside 16 of the 17 shots they faced.  We should also recognize the young 99ers goalie, who at times seemed unbeatable, stopping 37 of the 39 shots we put at him.

Game two will be on Friday at 7pm in Brantford.  Keep working hard Gentlemen!
