Novice Gold's 50th Win of Year is "Glorious"
Novice Gold took home the East/Central Championship Saturday night with their 50th win of the season.
The Albert McCormick East Rink was packed as the Wolves took on Kitchener Red in the deciding game of the league championships. The Wolves had taken the first game of the series 3-0 in Waterloo on Tuesday, while Kitchener bounced back to win 2-0 at home in Activa.
The Wolves jumped on the Jr. Rangers from the puck drop but despite several chances remained tied at 0-0 after the first. In the second, the Wolves would remain on the hunt, but would hit metal on several occasions, until a Michael B. power play low blast on the ice found the far corner to give the Wolves a 1-0 with under 2 mins left in the second. In the third, the Wolves would get into some penalty trouble at the beginning of the period and Kitchener would get some momentum and finally beat Ty B. by putting a puck in off a Wolves helmet to knot the game 1-1. With 7 min left, the Wolves would get a 2-man powerplay and Grayson S. would squeak one through the goaltender to get the Wolves the 2-1 lead. Ryder H. would add the insurance with 53s left by banging in a rebound from a Grayson S. point shot.
The Wolves will head to London with Kitchener to face Sarnia and Oakridge in the Alliance Championships on April 13-15th.
