The Novice Gold coaches, players and
parents would like to thank DRJ Image and Print for providing Humboldt Broncos
helmet stickers for the Alliance Championships. After day one, the Wolves are 2-0 and sit in first.
In game one, Gold faced the Oakridge Aeros, the Alliance West Playdown Champions,.
In the early going, the Wolves dominated play but got into early penalty trouble. Oakridge would gain some momentum, but the Wolves penalty kill would keep the game 0-0 headed into the second. In the second period, the Wolves would capitalize with two powerplay goals to get the 2-0 lead on goals by Liam M. and Hunter C. The Aeros would push back at the end of the second and beginning of the third, but Boyd S. would deny them until the Aeros stuffed a powerplay rebound in to make it 2-1. Ryder H. would then net 2 goals to give the Wolves a 4-1 lead. Wyatt M. add another to seal the 5-1 win.
In game 2, Gold took on the Sarnia Sting, the Alliance West Regular Season Champions.
Lucas P., Hunter C. would feed Emre A. to get the Wolves an early 1-0 lead at 8:45 of the first. Sarnia would use their team speed to tie it 1-1 with 1:29 left in the first, but Wyatt M. would restore the lead just 17s later. In the second, Sarnia would tie the game at 2 with just less than 4 min left in the second. Emre A. would jam away at the beginning of the third to put the Wolves up 3-2. The Wolves would then use a relentless fore check on Sarnia, but despite several chances could not extend the lead. The Wolves would draw a late penalty and Sarnia would get several chances to tie the game but Ty B. would make several key saves to hang on for the win.
