Matthew is an offensive defensemen who is very shifty and difficult to play against. He sees the ice very well and makes a great first pass out of the zone. His speed makes him a threat on the rush and his awareness often creates scoring chances for his teammates when he gives them the puck. He is strong in front of the net and not afraid to play the body.
