On Saturday night the Waterloo Wolves traveled to Hamilton to take on the first place seeded Hamiltion Huskies with a record of (11-2).
The Wolves came out of the gates quick setting the tone for the entire game. In the first period the Wolves out shot the Huskies 10-7. Drew Gerth and Jack McMurry were strong on the face offs in the 1st winning 12 combined and giving the team some good shot opportunities. The score remained at 0-0 going into the second period.
In the second period the Wolves special teams came into play. The team killed 4/4 penalties successfully and were extremely strong on the forecheck. Carter Buehlow was the first man in on the PK and pressured the Huskies defense into a turnover. Carter then opened up the Wolves scoring with a short handed goal giving him his first goal as a Waterloo Wolf. Due to penalties the Wolves were out shot in the 2nd period but still kept it close at 11-13 shots.
In the 3rd period after the flood the Wolves came out aggressively. Defense kept the pucks in deep and the opposing players to the outside lanes. At 9:44 in the 3rd period Riley Reid snuck in another goal short side with apples from Justin Labrie and Drew Gerth.
Two minutes later at 7:09 Carter Buehlow got his 2nd goal of the night with assists from Kyle Bordessa and Drew Gerth. This sealed the deal for the Wolves with a very strong game offensively and defensively. Hamilton was given very few good scoring chances and pucks were cycled well by the Wolves. Total shots in the 3rd period were 16-6 Wolves.
Total Shots On Net: 38-26
At the end of the game the teams got into a little tussle and both penalty boxes filled up fast. This left a sea of yellow to the left of the bench for the final 30 seconds.
Carter Buehlow was named player of the game along with Ethan Bulovas for the shut out.
The Wolves will head to Rim Optimists tomorrow evening at 5:00PM-6:30PM for another practice followed by Fitz Boxing at 8:00PM on Tuesday.
