Christmas Tournament Recap
What a tournament!!  After getting off to a slow start with losses in the first two games it looked like the Wildcats were going to make an early exit from the tournament, however that was not the case.Game 1 and 2 points from Nick, Alex, John, Derek and Connor. Maybe it was all the turkey or stuffing that was slowing them down as they were not playing up to their potential.

Game 3 rolled around and the Wildcats were unleashed…..could these be the same Wildcats???? Forecheck, backcheck, passing, scoring and great saves, this was the Wildcats team we knew.  Game 3 points from James H (2), James K, Derek, Matt, Nick, Colbey (2).

This amazing effort then earned them a well deserved spot in the semi-finals!

The next opponent was the Black team with strong players a plenty.  The game was back and forth with Black potting a goal late in the third to put them ahead, maybe for good.  The sturdy Wildcats would have none of it with golden glove Mack pulled and an extra skater on to tie it up.  Extra time could not resolve the tie so a shootout would be needed.  Mack stood on his head making three awesome saves and James H. was able to bury one against the black team to give the Wildcats a win and a chance at the prize. Semi-final points from Connor, James H (2), Alex, John. This definitely had to be one of the most exciting games in the tournament!

The finals were held at RIM park lions arena and the stands were filled with fans from both teams.  The atmosphere was electric with excitement.  Who would win the battle between Teal “the Sharks” and Purple “the Wildcats?”  The Sharks had managed 17 goals with only allowing 7 in the tournament.  They would be a very tough opponent for the Wildcats with many great players to contend with.

The Wildcats were resolute and determined to play their best game to be victorious.

They pounced on opportunities and scored early and often. By the end of the 1st period the Wildcasts were in the lead with some great play.  Outstanding backchecking and vigilant forechecking was paying off.  There had been a lot of hockey and the Sharks began to battle back. 5-1, then 5-2, then 5-3, but Mack stood tall making great saves to make the final 6-4.  What a game it was!  Championship game points to Connor (3), Derek (2), Garrett (2), Alex, John, James K, James H, Kieran, Matt. Trophies  raised and congratulations were given for both teams who put forth an amazing effort to make it a very successful and exciting houseleague Christmas tournament. Thanks go out to all the parents for your support and bringing the boys out to all the games!
