Great Hockey Day
Great Hockey Day Great Hockey Day We had a great Hockey day on Saturday.  Special thanks go out to the Rangers Organization

A special thanks also to all the parents for getting your player to the game.

We had the full team out on Sunday.

That was a real accomplishment with the busy season and all the colds going around.

Team Play

The team is starting to come together.  Passing is the hardest skill in hockey to learn.

Think about what is involved.

First you have to be able to skate.

Then you have to handle the puck.

Now you have to handle the puck, while looking for the open player (handle the puck without looking at it).

Now, you have to pass the puck form your stick to the place where the player getting the pass is going to be, without the other team getting it.

Now the real hard part - you have to trust the player you are passing to do something good with the puck

This is what being a team is all about – Trust.  Events like yesterday go along way to building the team.

As the Coach, when I see passing attempts, even if they fail, I am very proud of the boys.

Golden Moment

You will notice that Jacob got the golden moment for a great pass.  Trent made a very good play putting the puck in the net but it was the pass from Jacob, that was superb, that created the opportunity.

The pass kept Trent on side and put him behind the D.  Great pass, great shot, great goal.

I am now shifting the golden moment award to plays like this – Way to go Jacob

Confidence

As the game went on and the boys saw they could win the game, they all started to play harder.  That is the result of confidence.

You could see, very obviously in their play, the difference confidence makes. By the way, this confidence, as a skill, is transferrable to every aspect of life.

We may not think of confidence as a skill but it is something we learn.

Ice Time

This time we had a full team.

We double shifted the left wingers and defense, everybody else got triple shifted.

The next time we have a full team, we will be putting the centres on defense and going with 6 defense.  All forwards will be double shifted.

This will mean that our normal centres will play defense for a game – Yes, Jacob and Murtaza will play defense.  Do not worry, they will have time to practice their positions.

Also, this allows them to see the game from a different perspective.  This defensive knowledge will help them in the future.

Christmas Tournament Friday Dec 27 to Monday Dec 30

From what I gather already, we will be missing players for this tournament.

Please let me know what your families intentions are for this time period.

Big weekend coming up

We practice Friday 6:30 AMCW then play Saturday 10:30 AMCW and Sunday 10:30 AMCW.  No 7:00 time slots this weekend – Yeah!
