Sadiq was solid in goal and his team played very well in front of him If you combine those two key elements, we get the Sharks first win.
Positional Play Recap
In the dressing room before the game I was emphasising the need to play well defensively. The team really responded well.
The defense were between Sadiq and the puck at all times.
The forwards also moved the puck up the boards in our end. There were few, if any, errant passes in our own end. This is key.
That is exactly what was discussed in the room and the boys were able to follow through on the ice – I am very impressed. Ten year old boys listening at 8:30 on a Sunday – What is this world coming to!!
Team Spirit
The team Captains also followed through in their leadership roll.
Take note, parents, of a big change in the team's spirit from last year. The enthusiasm on the bench is as contagious as it is fantastic. The boys are cheering each other on and giving Sadiq pats on the pads. Today’s captains in particular are a big part of this.
Ice Time Minute
We had some penalties to deal with, but I thought the ice time was well managed.
Today we had 7 forwards and 4 defence. The defence got double shifted and one forward moved through right wing, center and left wing.
Everybody got double shifted for two periods except for Jack.
In order to manage this, Assistant Captain Jack L. sat out for two shifts. To compensate for this, he started every period. It is very difficult to mentally shift positions during a game and Jack did a great job.
Golden moment
Sadiq was solid in net. He was there when needed. This gave the team a big boost. For that he got the golden moment jersey for this game.
