The Winning Streak is Now At Two Games
Sunday November 10, 2013

Game Reporter: Jay Nijhuis

After a very high spirited practice on Saturday, The AtoMc Lightning entered the game on Sunday November 10 fired up and ready to try and capture their third win of this very young season.

Coach Joe and Coach Jeff both had very positive things to say about the work ethic of the boys on Saturday immediately following the practice, a practice where the entire team was focused and worked incredibly hard. The boys worked on the pre game swing drill at the beginning of practice as the coaching staff noticed before the last game that it could be done faster, and with harder accurate passes. The practice paid off as the boys looked sharp in the pre game warm up as they prepared to face a hungry AtoMc Green team.

This turned out to be a fantastic game as both teams came out flying. Jackson M. started the game in goal for the Lightning and made some huge saves to keep the other team off of the score sheet. Although, truth be told, I think the hockey gods played a big part as well. There were a couple of plays that looked like sure goals against us, including the puck falling between our goalie's legs and sitting vertical on the goal line but never rolling in. Another time Devin I. swooped in behind Jackson to clear a loose puck out of the crease before the other team could put it in.

Our first goal was scored by Corey S. who dove for a loose puck and managed to tip it through the goalies legs just as he was dropping down to cover it up. Corey also potted our second goal on a nice pass out of the zone by Kyle B. Corey kicked in the after burners and picked the bottom glove side corner to make it 2-0 Lightning.

The prettiest goal of the game was the last one as Grady S. finished off a beautiful three way passing play with Tyler H and Cory S getting the assists. Also, big props going out to Liam B. who took over between the pipes half way through the game and managed to make 2 huge saves with less than a minute left to preserve a 3-2 Lightning victory.

The most embarrassing play of the game goes to Coach Jay who was anticipating the puck going deep into the other teams end. He called for a defensive line change just as the puck got turned over. That lead to a 2 on 0 break away for the Green team but Jackson saved the coach's bacon with not one, but two incredible stops.

The McDonald's Golden Jersey was awarded to the entire team as it was way to hard to pick one recipient after the gutsy performance put in by all they players on the ice.

Missing in action today was defence man Jonah V. who was on the trainers table getting pumped full of hot soup, ginger ale and popsicles as he battled a touch of the Flu. The medical staff hopes for a speedy recovery.

Just a reminder, if you click on Player Profiles on the left hand side of this page, you can learn more about the boys on this team, if your child is not on that page, it is because you have not handed in the Player Profile page that I included in the folder you all received at the beginning of the year. Please get those filled out and returned to Coach Jay as soon as possible. If you can't find the form, just answer the questions on the website and hand in that piece of paper.

Keep your stick on the ice and we'l see you next weekend.
