Power Outage for Lightning
Sunday October 20, 2013

The AtoMc Lightning prepared for their second game of the season on Sunday October 20 at Albert McCormick West.

Coach Joe reminded the boys pre game to try and do all the good stuff the team managed to do in the first game of the season. Mainly keeping the puck out of our "house", having the courage to skate with the puck if given enough time and to skate hard and chase down the puck because teams who don't have the puck don't have the opportunity to score.

It was a well played game by both teams and our opponents just managed to capitalize a bit more on their chances. Grady S. scored a sweet goal but that was the only time the AtoMc Lightning hit the score sheet in a 3-1 loss. Liam B., Ty C. and Sam G. all suited up for the first time and it was really nice having our full team on the ice.

Coach Jeff said after the game that the positive thing is that we never quit as a team and the Lightning showed great effort and heart. We saw a couple of our players carying the puck for extended periods of time. We also saw some great passing and some really great hustle back checking.

Speaking of back checking, Cory S. was awarded the McDonald's Golden Jersey this morning because of his outstanding comittment to defence and his acrobatic diving poke checks that heped keep the score closer than maybe it should have been.

The boys in black certainly looked like a million bucks on Sunday morning as we unveiled the team jerseys with Names on the back and each player also got a matching number placed on their helmet. Parents also received laminated team roster cards so that everyone knows the names of the players. If you are a parent that DIDN'T get a card, see Coach Jay as he has extra.

We are now 1-1 on this very young season and look forward to getting back on the ice soon.
