What an incredible end
to the season for the U15 Waterloo Wolves House League division!
I previously reported
that all four Waterloo teams ended up in the semi-finals of the TCHL
championships, with the Ice Wolves and the Arctic Wolves in the final.
Now, it is my great
pleasure to report on Waterloo’s success at the Alliance Championship!
While normally each city
only sends one team to the Alliance, this year there was an extra spot in the
tournament and both the winner of the Waterloo HL championships (Timber Wolves)
and the second place team (Mountain Wolves) were invited to the tournament. (Yeah,
not the same two as went to the TCHL final!)
Both teams made it
through round robin play with 3 and 0 records. Of the 12 teams, the Timber
Wolves came in just slightly ahead of the Mountain Wolves to finish in first
place.
Both teams won their
semi-final, setting the stage for an all-Waterloo final!!!
And what a game it
was!!!!!!! Clean. Competitive. Exciting.
Ended in a 3 – 3 tie.
Overtime changed nothing.
So they were off to a shoot-out.
AND THE MOUNTAIN WOLVES
WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m smiling as I write
this. It was so exciting. It was the best of minor hockey, of house league
hockey. Cheering – not jeering. Friendly taps during the game. Black jerseys
hugging gold jerseys, gold jerseys hugging black jerseys at the end! Sure,
there were a few tears – the Timber Wolves really wanted to win – but if you
have to lose a game, this is the way to do it!!
Congratulations Mountain
Wolves, Alliance Champs!!!!! Thanks for bringing home the Championship pennant
for Waterloo!!! You played a great season!!!!
