Great Effort Doesn't Translate Into a Win
Sunday November 1, 2015

Game Reporter: Jay Nijhuis

With only a couple of practices under our belts in this young season, the coaching staff is focusing on the basics for the time being. Getting the puck out of our house, getting it out of our zone and getting it deep into the other teams zone.

This past Sunday in the game vs the Teal Sharks we played 2 really good periods and unfortunately we strayed from our plan a bit in the third which cost us a late goal and a 3-2 loss. The coaches mentioned before the game that if we do all the little things right and work hard, then we won't see a lopsided game like the week before. I think you'll agree the game was much better and closer than last week.

The hot streak continues for Devin I. who has scored 6 goals in the last 3 games and it really is hard to believe that our goalie Alex S. is in his first full year as a goaltender. Parents who have been at practices have seen that we have been able to bring in older goaltenders to work with Alex and he is also taking extra lessons on the side. He has been absolutely fantastic so far this year and is a joy to watch.

The coaches have also done some tinkering to the lineup by moving Jackson D. and Matthew H. up to forward last game and moving James K. and Tyler H. back to the blue line. We will continue to move players around to allow them to try other positions and to discover where they fit best.

One thing to remember is that all teams make the playoffs, so our goal is to have the Penguins running like a finely tuned engine as playoff time approaches. Of course or goal is to win every game, but we realize that there is a pretty steep learning curve and it will take time for everyone to get on the same page and play the way we know they can.

Hope you have enjoyed the first few games and are as excited about this team as we coaches are.

Keep cheering loud and thanks for supporting the Penguins.

Our next game is Sunday November 8 at 3:30 pm vs Black at Albert McCormick Arena West.
