Skills Plus now Unbeaten in 4 games

Game Report: Jay Nijhuis

The Skills Plus players were well groomed and smelling great for picture day today at Moses Springer Arena. The mood in the dressing room was light and fun (winning streaks tend to make everything more fun). After the final snap of the camera, it was up to the coaching staff to get the boys focused on the task at hand, a tough match up against Piller's.

Piller's is the only team we hadn't played yet and we were very aware that their current record was NOT an accurate reflection of their team. Coach Joe once again reminded all the players about our system and how hard everyone in the room would have to work to keep the winning streak alive.

I have mentioned before that team effort has NEVER been an issue, we as coaches are incredibly proud of how hard this group of young men work and the never quit attitude that has become evident game in and out.

Both teams came out flying and traded chances at both ends of the rink. After taking a penalty, we braced for an offensive onslaught, however in a weird twist of fate, Skills Plus scored twice short handed on the same penalty kill. Goals were scored by Devin I. who intercepted a D to D pass and scored on a long breakaway. Connor M. also scored a beauty through the goaltenders legs to make it 2-0.

In the 2nd period , our team got a little unfocused and it cost us as Piller's scored 2 quick goals to tie the game at   2-2. Things eventually got back to normal in the 3rd period and the boys settled down. The 3rd period was very entertaining but nobody else on either team could bulge the twine and the game ended 2-2.

We have now played all 7 teams in the league once and our record is 3-3-1 which is very respectable, considering we started the season 0-3. We look forward to an exciting second half of the season, plus a Christmas Tournament and the London Tournament Jan 9-11, 2015.

Great things are on the horizon.

Keep your stick on the ice! See you at practice tomorrow morning
