Skills Plus Secures a Valuable Point

Skills Plus faced off with the Kitchener Rangers squad this morning and were looking to get a little revenge for a 7-1 loss earlier this season.
After a couple of lop sided loses heading into the Christmas Tournament and a disappointing 0-3 showing over the Holidays, the coaching staff worked hard on Friday night to get the boys ready for a big rematch against the Kitchener Rangers.
Even though we went 0-3 in the Christmas Tournament, we felt the boys actually played two incredible games against Allstate and BJC. Often times, when you are in a slump, you have a couple of games where you might not have won, but you were the best team on the ice. It just felt like we might be seeing some light at the end of the tunnel heading into the game today.
The boys played great and, unlike previous games, were ready to play and compete right from the drop of the puck. Ethan M. scored a beautiful goal off a rush where he finished the play with a beauty forehand backhand deke to make it 1-0. The Rangers responded quickly and tied the game just minutes later. Our guys played incredible defensively and our forwards were forechecking like crazy all game. Let's not forget our goalie David B. who was lights out and kept us in the game.
Late in the 2nd period, Ty C. put a wrist shot in off of the goalies glove for a 2-1 lead after 2 periods. The Rangers battled hard to try and get the equalizer and did manage to score off a sharp angle backhand half way through the 3rd. That was the final goal of the game and teams skated off the ice to a round of applause for a hard fought 2-2 tie.
Skills Plus now prepares for a whole lot of fun with our London Tournament happening this coming weekend. We reminded the players to check their hockey bags to make sure they have everything before they leave for London, but parents might want to check as well. We'll see you all Friday night at 6pm.
