Skills Plus Come Back to Earn Win!
Friday January 23, 2014

Game Reporter: Jay Nijhuis

Coach Joe spent some time in the dressing room reminding the team about how well we have been playing lately, starting with the game just before the London Tournament where we tied the Kitchener Rangers.

He also reminded the boys about how badly we played the last time we hit the ice on a Friday night (huge loss to Mount Forest in the Tourney)and said he hoped we wouldn't see a Friday night like that again. Well, half way through the second period it looked like it might be another long night.

Pioneer Transmission came out quick and banged home a loose puck in the crease for a 1-0 lead. Team Skills Plus came right back thanks to a nice goal from Devin I. However, the baby blue team across the ice from us managed to pot 2 more goals and the score was 3-1. David B. was simply outstanding in this game making a dozen or so game breaking saves that kept us in it until we could find our legs.

Ethan M. scored on a fantastic rush to make it 3-2 and Simon H. picked up a lose puck off the back boards and scored on a ridiculously sharp angle with a flip shot to make it 3-3 with just seconds left in the period. Coach Joe reminded the boys, at the bench, that the tide was starting to turn and to keep working and skating.

The momentum appeared to have shifted as we spent a bit more time in the offensive zone and got more goals from Ty. C in front, Connor M. on a breakaway and another nice rush goal from Ethan M. to make the final score 6-3 for Skill Plus and making our record for the season one game under .500 at 4-5-2. Once again David B. made some great saves in the third to help us maintain our lead and our defence did a nice job getting the puck out of danger and out of the zone.

Game notes: Tyler H. was on injured reserve last night battling a flu bug and the team welcomed back Derek R. after missing a large chunk of the season with a broken wrist.

Our next game is Saturday January 24/15 at 1:00pm vs Piller's at Moses Springer Arena.

Keep your stick on the ice!
