Chicago Tournament
This past weekend, the Minor Peewee Wolves travelled to
Chicago and played in the Bauer World Hockey Invitational tournament. The team rode in style by team bus to
Naperville Illinois, just outside of Chicago.
Games started on Friday: the
Wolves defeated Leafs HC 2-1 but lost to Cleveland 5-2. Needing a victory on Saturday, the Wolves
defeated Saginaw 2-1. This qualified the
team for the championship round. Later
that day, the Wolves began an impressive run with a 6-1 victory over the Long
Island Royals.
On Sunday, the Wolves won their quarter-final game 6-0 over the hometown favourite Chicago Blues. Next, Waterloo beat the Lambton Jr. Sting 4-1 in the semi-finals. This advanced the team to the finals: the top two teams whittled down from 32 teams. In a thriller, Waterloo beat the St. Louis based Affton Americans 1-0. It was a real nail-biter, and a sweet victory. Congratulations to the Wolves on this impressive tournament victory. This is something to be truly proud of! Thanks to our coaches, players, fundraising committee, social committee, parents and bus driver who made this an amazing weekend. Long-lasting memories were created. League play returns this week with games against Brantford and Elgin-Middlesex.
