Game 32
Game 3 of the Alliance Championships, Quarter finals with our old rival the Burlington Bulldogs.

Third game of the tournament and the 2nd game vs the Bulldogs.  All or nothing, Coach Andy said there is no tomorrow. We need to get it done tonight.  The game starts with both teams pushing hard. Burlington does their dump it in and chase it down and keep that 3rd man on the way back.  Both team back checking hard not wanting to give up anything easy.  Burlington takes two penalties in the first but we can't capitalize.  The first period comes to an end with a 0-0 tie.  Shots on goal were 5 a piece.  The boys are showing their nerves, the bench is quiet, too quiet.  We need to take it from them, as they aren't making many mistakes and they are high off the glass and out all night. When they gain our zone they are shooting once they hit the top of the circles or even before.  The second continues with more of the same.  Both teams take a penalty in the 2nd but neither team is able to make anything count.  Fahmy is solid as he holds onto the puck with every shot, no rebounds for the Bulldogs.  Farnham comes in with 5 minutes left in the 2nd and he is busy early but holds the fort.  with 1:45 left in the 2nd the Bulldogs make a solid break out pass that sends the skater down the right side. It's a 2 on 1 and as he hits the face off circle he shoots far side and it seems to go under Farnham's arm and it's 1-0 Bulldogs.  The 2nd ends with the shots 13 - 8 in favour of the Bulldogs.  Lots of hockey left, stick to your game plan, let's get some more pucks to the net. On the opening face off of the 3rd we take a penalty.  We do a great job of holding them off and even create a bit of pressure on the penalty kill. We get back to even strength and as Burlington breaks out the puck gets caught in the forwards feet.  Pernfuss is there to poke it out of his feet and enters the Bulldogs end on the left side. He stays wide to beat the D and cuts hard to the net. As he hits the crease I can't say I saw the shot, but the hands went up and ref pointed, it's tied at 1. With about 3 minutes to go the Bulldogs get a shot off a post or two and there seems to be some uncertainty as to if it's a goal or not. The ref goes to the face off dot to the left of Farnham so no goal.  With just over 2 minutes to go we are deep in the Bulldogs end and the shot is taken on the short side between the post and the goalies arm. The parents behind the glass jump with their hands up, the puck is in the back of the net, but no goal.  The ref said he lost sight of it as he picked it out of the back of the net. Well 1-1, 2-2, whatever we're still tied. Both teams continue up and down the ice but nothing is solved and the 3rd ends with a 1-1 tie.  Shots in the 3rd were 10 - 9 for the Bulldogs. Off to overtime, 3 on 3 with 99 minutes on the clock.  The 3 on 3 works to our favour as we have several chances early but can't put it away.  With just over 5 minutes gone in overtime the Bulldogs are in our end and get a shot and the rebound comes right to another Bulldog on the door step.  With a gaping net he fires the puck for the win. But wait, Farnham isn't quite ready to concede the game as he reaches behind him across the open net and to everyone's amazement the puck is in his glove. The Bulldogs bench doesn't quite know what to do. The Bulldogs on the ice give Farnham a hand for the amazing save. Time to breathe again. They drop the puck and we get it back into the left corner. O'Neill tries to bank it off the boards out of our end. The puck deflects off a Bulldog right back to our net. O'Neill jumps on his horse and races across to pick the puck back up and then continues up the right side out of our end. O'Neill accelerates down the right side leaving one Bulldog behind. It looks like a 2 on 1 and the D keeps backing in and takes away the pass. O'Neill seizes the opportunity and goes right to the net and cut's across the crease and tuck's it in the far side for the winner. 2 - 1 Wolves. Final shots we're 32 - 30 Wolves. Hardest worker goes to O'Neill with consideration going to Farnham for the game saving save. Well boys we still have a ship to burn, see you in the morning, the Semis vs Mount Hamilton Blues.

Burn the Ships!!
