Game 27
Woodstock visits Waterloo for game one of our home and away series.

We've never had the opportunity to play Woodstock.  Let's focus on what we do well.  Pressure, we can never apply enough pressure. Keep the high man high, tape to tape out of our end or off the glass. Puck support, puck support, puck support, be in position to pick up the play and maintain the pressure.  The first starts with a minute or two of feeling them out and then we started to get possession in their end. We have some shots, but from a distance and no real scoring chances. With 5 minutes left in the 1st, Logel chips the puck off the boards to Pernfuss. Pernfuss picks the puck up in stride and comes down the right side and beats the defense wide. He hits the face off circle and loads one up and goes far side 1 foot off the ice for the 1-0 lead. With 2 1/2 minutes left in the first the Navy Vets take a penalty. Next face off is to the right of the net. Baker wins the draw to Mirt on the boards, Mirt feeds Baker down low and goes to the net. Baker waits then curls behind Mirt and walks out front and buries it low for the 2-0 lead. First period comes to an end with the shots 6-2 for the Wolves. 1 1/2 minutes into the second period the Navy Vets are in the box again. 30 seconds into the penalty Baker head mans the puck to Schal and falls in behind. Schal takes it across the blue line on the left side and drops it to Baker. Baker let's a hard low clapper go and it finds the far corner for his second power play goal and a 3-0 lead.  45 seconds later we have the puck in their end and put a puck back to the point.  It's a little hard to handle and it get's behind our D and #19 of the the Navy Vets pick up the puck and it's a race. He's able to stay the 1/2 stride ahead as he comes down the right side. He gets below the hash marks and slides one on the ice to the far corner and it's 3-1 Wolves. We are able to control the play for most of the rest of the 2nd but the frustration is showing in the Navy Vets play. The Wolves get 2 penalties in the last half of the 2nd and the Navy Vets take 5. The period ends with the shots 9-6 in favour of the Wolves. We talk to the boys about keeping their heads and not to get involved in any extra curricular activities with the opponent. Stay focused and play our game.  We take a penalty early in the 3rd. With 8 1/2 to go Baker picks up a loose puck and takes it down the right side.  Baker beats his man wide and cuts hard to the net along the goal line and goes back hand to fore hand and stuffs it 5 hole for the short handed goal. 4-1 Wolves. On the next shift just under 8 minutes to go Mackenzie picks up a loose puck near centre and takes the puck wide on the right side. He beats the D and fires one low to the far side as he hits the face off circle. Wolves 5, Navy Vets 1 is our final. Shots on net were 21-11 for the Wolves. Hardest worker goes to Mackenzie. All around good effort.  2 more games left in the season, let's keep it on the tracks and build the momentum for the Alliance.
