Game 30
Game 1 of the Alliance Championships.  Our opening draw is with the Burlington Bulldogs.  A rematch of last years final.

Here we go. We are playing 10-15-15 for the tournament games. Both teams are fore checking well to start the game.  The Wolves are having success with possession in Burlington's end but not getting many shots. Burlington has a couple chances but no real scoring opportunities.  Late in the first with just under a minute to play we have a cross ice pass from our corner picked off at the top off the slot. Burlington skates it to the net and makes a move back hand to forehand and stuffs it in for a 1-0 lead for the Bulldogs. That's how the first period ends with the shots 6 - 3 for the Wolves.  The second starts with more of the same as the first.  Then we get into some penalty trouble as we end up getting 3 penalties in the 2nd to Burlington's none.  With around 10 minutes to go in the 2nd Mirt head mans the puck to Baker up the right side. Baker adjusts his pace as he crosses the blue line and then breaks hard for the corner.  Baker gets a step on the D and sees Schal on the back door.  Baker makes the pass right on the tape and Schal makes no mistake as he buries it to tie the game at 1.  We do a little more penalty killing in the 2nd and Farnham sees a little more action than usual but steers everything away from the net. The second ends with score knotted at 1 and the shots were 10 - 6 for the Bulldogs. Ok, big third period. We start the 3rd short handed and 20 seconds in the Bulldogs take a penalty to even things up.  1 1/2 minutes into the 3rd Logel takes down a Bulldog forward that was about to be one on one with the goalie. The Bulldog didn't like it and gave Logel a 2 hander. Logel gets the box and the Bulldog gets a game. We play 4 on 3 then 4 on 4 then 5 on 4 as the penalties work themselves through but nothing on the score board.  With 4 1/2 to go we have a face off to the left of our net. Baker wins it back to Droog. Droog puts it up to Mirt who tips it to a rushing Baker. Baker crosses centre and goes wide around the D. Baker cuts it hard from right to left and zips through the crease and slips it between the pad and the post for a 2-1 lead. With 3 minutes to go the Bulldogs take another penalty. On the ensuing power play we get control in the Bulldogs end. Mackenzie gets the puck to Witzel and he works low to the right side of the net and takes a shot. The puck crosses the crease to the left side where Pernfuss happily jams it home for the final blow with 1:44 on the clock. Burlington never saw our half of the ice for the final minute and change and the game wraps up with a 3-1 victory for the Wolves. Shots on net were 22 - 19 for the Wolves. Hardest worker goes to Farnham. Good job boys, let's focus on game 2.
