Game 28
Rematch with the 99'ers. Coming to Waterloo to wrap up the home and away series.

We had a melt down in the last 3 minutes of our visit to Brantford. Discipline, Discipline, play our game and don't get caught up in any shenanigans. Thought I'd get in a quick St Patrick's day touch. Quick shifts, lots of pressure, this should be fun.  The first period was pretty even as both teams had their chances.  We were able to keep their shots from a distance or very poor angles. We got one behind the goalie off the post but couldn't bang it in. We had one anomaly where both O'Neill and Schal were in the box at the same time and it was the first time in there this season for either of them. I should have taken a picture.  The first ends in a 0-0 draw with shots at 6 for both sides. We had a good pace and killing off the penalty was a boost. Let's keep up the pressure and get more shots to the net. 20 seconds into the 2nd we have Witzel on the far side head man the puck to Baker. He quickly dishes it over to Mackenzie on the right side and he works his way wide around the D. Mackenzie gets in real tight and goes high off the back crossbar and out for a 1-0 lead. Keep the foot on the gas, we need to add to this score.  1 1/2 minutes later the puck is at the point in the 99'ers end and Droog puts it deep to Hooper. Hooper walks behind the net and finds Witzel parked out front. It's a bang bang play as Witzel buries the pass for a 2-0 lead. We end up getting into penalty trouble with 3 penalties in the remainder of the 2nd and successfully kill off the first with two still on the board at the end of the second.  The second ends with the shots 10 -7 in favour of the 99'ers. Guys the effort is there but we're up 2-0 and we have 2 guys in the box.  We don't don't need more work on our 5 on 3 penalty kill. Let's get our feet moving and stay out of the box. The third starts with us short handed but we get the puck deep and steal the puck on several of the break out attempts and even get a couple of shots off killing the 5 on 3.  With 8:43 on the clock, Droog at the point checks down the shot from the point and chooses to play it safe and dump it into the left corner for Carr-Pries. Carr-Pries works out from the corner and gets the puck into play out front. The goalie seems to try and make a play on the puck and Haffey is there to put it away for the 3-0 lead. With just over 6 1/2 minutes left in the 3rd, Mirt head mans the puck to Baker up the left side. Baker stays wide and rides the boards right behind the net. Hooper mirrors him on the way in and slips to the front of the net. Baker sees Hooper and put's it on the tape and Hooper makes it look easy as he puts it far side for a 4-0 lead. We take a couple more penalties to end the third but hold our own to wrap up the evening with a 4-0 victory.  It was a great effort and the players showed good puck support which helped us with possession through out the game. Our 7 penalties to their 1 is way too much. We need to reel that in as those kind of numbers will bite you in the end.  Both Fahmy and Farnham made some key saves to keep the 99'ers off the board. The D was able to maintain a net presence through out the game to take away any easy opportunities from the 99'ers. I think if we eliminate the penalties (14 minutes short handed) with the same kind of effort we position ourselves to be that much more dominant. Only 1 game left in the regular season, let's focus on our best effort to prime for the Alliance.

Burn the Ships!!
