Game 24
Today's game marks the 3/4 mark of our regular season.  We square off against Dofasco in their building. Our last meeting resulted in a 1-0 victory. We will need to solve their goaltender as only 1 of 31 shots beat him in our last meeting.

Tight dressing room tonight, and the singing from the showers next door was a little off. Fast and furious is the key, high tempo, aggressive forecheck, and cut off their breakout.  Prefer tape to tape when exiting our end but if it's not their off the boards and the forwards will take it from there. Like to get one early and build from there. The puck drops and we're off, puck possession is ours and it stayed that way till the final buzzer. Excellent break outs and great support of the puck carrier as we entered their zone.  The first period was played about as well as you could ask for.  The score board read 0-0 after the first. Shot were 16-1 for the Wolves.  The boys just need to keep it up, they can't survive the pressure, more of the same was the message for the 2nd.  At 9:46 in the second we have the puck in their end. Mirt gets the puck back to Beech, he feeds Baker who turns in the slot and fires 5 hole for the ice breaker. 1-0 Wolves. Coach Hooper let's everyone know the damn's been broke, let get to work.  22 seconds later, deep in their end, Hooper gets the puck to Haffey deep in the right corner. Haffey feeds a wide open Carr-Pries out front and he makes no mistake and buries the biscuit for a 2-0 lead. With 4:45 left in the 2nd Dofasco dumps the puck in and Droog promptly fires it back out to centre. Haffey picks the puck up on the fly and comes down the right side under mild duress. Haffey beats his man and goes far side under the blocker for a 3-0 lead. The next shift, less than a minute later the puck comes to the point and Beech fires one hard on the ice. Baker left to himself in front of the goaltender nonchalantly redirects the puck up and over the goalies shoulder for a 4-0 lead.  With 2 minutes left in the 2nd, there is a loose puck in the neutral zone and O'Neill pokes it forward to the hustling Haffey. He's in all alone again and this time he goes top shelf like throwing a dart and it's 5-0 Wolves. With just over a minute left in the 2nd Dofasco wins a face off in our end back to the point. They get the shot off and it's deflected into the bottom corner short side. The 2nd ends with the score 5-1 for the Wolves. Shot's were 23-6 in the 2nd.  Not much to address with the boys after a 5 goal 2nd period.  Keep up with the shellacking, be mind full that frustration may begin to settle in with the opponent and we need to keep our heads and stay out of the box.  Don't give them any reason to think that it's anything but over. The 3rd is underway and we're keeping up the pressure. With 10 1/2 to go Hooper enters Dofasco's zone on the right side and let's a shot go low and away. The rebound comes to Mirt as he crashes the net and he lifts the puck high and it comes to rest under the mesh on the back crossbar for a 6-1 lead. Dofasco get's the puck deep in our end and works it back to the point. The point shot is stopped and it looks like Fahmy has it.  Dofasco jams at the pads and it slides to the back of the net. 6-2 Wolves. 7 minutes to go and we're back in their end. Schal get's the puck to Mirt on the right hash mark. Mirt drops the puck low to Baker and goes to the net. Baker goes to put the puck out front. Dofasco's goalie attempts to block the pass and the puck goes off his stick and through his legs and Baker has a hatty. 7-2 Wolves. With 4 1/2 minutes to play the pressure continued and we're in their end again. Witzel has the puck and feeds Pernfuss who gets a shot off from the left side, the rebound falls to the right side of the net and Mackenzie is johnny on the spot. He flicks it high off the left post and it drops just inside the right post for the 8-2 lead. That's how it ended tonight folks. Final shots were 60-9, Dofasco's goalie got a work out, as he still had 52 saves. Defense was solid tonight with good puck movement. Every player had a shot on net. Hardest worker went to Mackenzie. Excellent work, start to finish, let's find a way to take it up a notch and better our best.

Burn the ships!!
