Sunday February 26th- Waterloo vs
Kitchener at the Sports World Complex
Our third game against our arch rivals Kitchener, but this time on their turf. The intimidation began early with Kitchener’s rather boisterous, spelling bee like warm-up in the front lobby- K-I-T-C-H-E-N-E-R- chanted repeatedly. It was a fasted paced, rather evenly matched game and thankfully fewer penalties than our last match together. There was no score until the third period when Xavier managed to squeak in a goal with a flurry of activity in front of the net.
A second goal by Waterloo was cancelled by the ref.
Multiple chances to score on both sides to say the least, but today we had the lucky horseshoe (we won’t mention where); Kitchener hitting posts and having near misses, plus exceptional goal tending by both Chris and Liam. Again the bench was short with Dawson being ill and Jeremy having to leave the game because of an injury, leaving the remaining crew feeling rather spent.
Kitchener pulled their goalie with less than 2 minutes left to play. At 1:08 remaining in the game, the timekeeper failed to advance the clock. After consultation with both sides, the time was reduced to 55 seconds.
Final score- 1-0 for Waterloo
Our captain, Colin was awarded the MVP of this game. Well done!

A short break home and then off to the Siskins game. The boys watched a somewhat raucous, but fast paced match between Waterloo and Cambridge. They sat behind the Siskins bench cheering and belting out a surprising enthusiastic version of “Sweet Caroline”. Our team had been invited to play a scrimmage between periods. The lads were divided by their black vs white jerseys and put on a great exhibition for the 300 fans in attendance. The scrimmage was even until Josh netted the only goal, seconds before the buzzer. There was an exciting conclusion as well for the Junior B match, with Devon Wagner capping the game for the Siskins during a shootout. A “Meet the Siskins” opportunity followed with autographed white hockey sticks. The boys were also treated to the infamous Siskins’ Sunday Sundae. Thanks Siskins!
